Dashain is the biggest festival in Nepal. It is the festival of tika where younger members take the blessing from their elders, grandfathers and grandmothers.
Previously, Dashin has not celebrated the way we celebrate right now. My grandfather had shared my the history of celebrating Dashin past decade. Ashoj would be the month of celebration where they manage the goods, clothes ready for them. Being a poor nation in terms of economy, they were in a financial crisis. They could hardly find the time to meet with their relatives since they need to sustain their life through livelihood, so our ancestors started the tradition or the festival called Dashain. Therefore, they prepare meat, bitten rice and the new money notes as a blessing.
When we look at the way we celebrate Dashain then we would find the difference. People celebrate in their own way they want. They spend money depending on the expense they could make. There is the compulsion of beer, alcohol, cards in most of the families. The trend of playing swing or we called lingaya ping where children gather and play as a team is in the way of extinction.
Though the celebration pattern has changed, I have found Dashain as the medium being close among relatives and families. We learn to respect the elderly people and put a tika and take the blessing from them. All the family members who are living away from their parents get together and celebrate Dashain enjoying the dishes in peace and harmony. They forget all the anger, revenge, selfishness, and become humble and put tika from them. Beyond this, they forget the close and the far relatives and goes relatives home to put tika.
Consequently, Dashain is the biggest and the most celebrated festival in Nepal. thought the way of celebration has changed. It is the medium to be close and united and live in peace and harmony.
