When we think about youth leadership, school activities and group meetings often come to mind but there is another activity that actively develops youth leadership that is Family meeting.
As a high school student, I have personally found the family meeting as an effective means to develop leadership in youth. As per many psychologists and therapists, a family meeting is a must for the children for their active participation, understanding the issues, ways to deals with those problems, finding out the solution, evaluating the situation, listening to other's opinions, critical thinking, and conclusion regarding the topic.
"Youth leadership begins with practice". Therefore there is a need for awareness among the parents and counseling regarding the ways to shape the children's future. Leadership begins with these skills.
1. Decision making
2. Goal setting
3. Problem solving
4. Relation building
5. Communications
6. Listening
7. Self-awareness
8. Empathy
When comparing life with others, especially in terms of guidance, I have found the family meeting as a key role in developing all those skills in myself. Especially the nation with poor leadership background has to come with the ideology to shape the future generation. Developing leadership skills results in participation in politics. Where politics is the brain for the development and progress of a nation.
Consequently, family meetings are highly necessary for developing leadership in youth and for the development of tomorrow's nation.
